Getting to Know Your Board Members- Board Chair, Michael Ferraro

family pic1.  Tell us a little about yourself (family, career, hobbies, etc.).

I graduated from UNCW in 2005 with a BA in Mathematics, where I graduated with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude.  I worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for approximately 6 years before leaving to run my own company, Innovation REI LLC, a real estate investment company.  I'm married to my amazing wife Beth and have a beautiful two year old daughter, Elena, with another girl on the way!

2.  Are you a native of Onslow County; if not, what brought you to Onslow County and where are you originally from?

Being the son of a retired Sergeant Major in the Marine Corp, I was born in Long Beach, CA but moved to Jacksonville, NC in 1984 where I stayed until leaving for college.

3.  What is one of your all-time favorite vacations that you have taken?  Why is it your favorite?

My favorite vacation would probably one of my trips to Las Vegas.  My family never really did vacations growing up so as a young adult, Las Vegas was just so over the top that it made it a trip I'll never forget.  Plus, my first time going was with my best friend and my second time was with my brother, so I cherish any memories that involve good times spent with those fellas!

4.  What is one interesting/exciting experience you have had?

My jobs in the FBI gave me many interesting experiences, although I can't talk openly about those.  But outside of that, I trained Mixed Martial Arts (cage fighting) for about 5 years and pushed myself to compete in a number of grappling tournaments as well as a Muay Thai kickboxing match.  The thrill of competing in a combat sport is something that not many people get to experience so I always look back on those experiences favorably.

5.  What else would you like people to know about you?

6.  How did you become involved with Philippians Place?

God put me in the right place at the right time.  My wife received an email looking for volunteers shortly after I mentioned to her that I was looking for a way to give back.  I showed up to a couple of volunteer meetings expecting nothing more that volunteering some of my time and services and before you knew it, I was being voted in as the Chairperson for this wonderful organization.

7.  What do you want people to know about Philippians Place?

It's a good cause, being run by good people, trying to do good things.
